The Real Wine Fair - Clos du Gravillas - Episode 2

 

 

I always enjoy seeing John Bojanowki he invariably  has a wonderful original take on things, as well as some infectious enthusiasm, even on the second day of a very busy fair.   So I tasted my way cheerfully through his range. 

 

2021 Emmenez-moi au Bout de Terret - £13.90

Light colour.  Light stony lemony nose with some herbal hints. And on the palate fresh lemony fruit, with more herbal notes and firm acidity.  Nicely refreshing.

 

2020 Minervois Blanc, l’Inattendu - £17.70 

A blend of Grenache Gris and Blanc, with some Macabeo.   Very light colour.  Firm and stony.  More weight and texture than the Terret.  A touch of oak on the finish and indeed the wine has spent nine months on its lees in a Stockinger barrel.   Nicely mouth filling

 

2020 A Fleur de Peau Muscat - £17.80

An orange wine. Light golden after three months on the skins.  Firm orange fruit, with ripe understated Muscat.  A hint of sweetness and some balancing tannins.   I like this a lot.  The skin contact seems to suit Muscat very nicely, making the very obvious flavours of  Muscat more subtle.  

 

2021 Sous les Cailloux des Grillons - £11.80

Very bright young colour. Fresh youthful fruit.  Good acidity. Medium weight.  Fresh red fruit and some balancing tannins.

 

2020 Rendez-vous sur la Lune - £14.45

Medium colour.  Quite solid red fruit on the nose. Quite rounded. Some fresh red fruit balanced with a firm streak of tannin.  Still very youthful.

 

2019 La Vielh - £17.70

Pure Carignan.  Good colour.  Red fruit on both the nose and palate.  Medium weight, some tannin and some appealing freshness.  Nicely balanced.

 

2020 Muscat de St Jean de Minervois, Douce Providence - £11.25 for 50cl

Elegant honey on both nose and palate.    A grand finale.

 

And John has a new wine in the pipeline.  He has planted some Piquepoul Noir, just 25 ares, which he has co-fermented with Grenache Noir, Blanc and Gris.  The name will be I’m Alive, after a song by Céline Dion.
