The Real Wine Fair – Domaine le Roc des Anges - Episode 3.

Le Roc des Anges is one of my favourite Roussillon estates, so I was delighted to see Marjorie Gallet there in person.   We had not met since this same event back in 2019.

2020 Llum Blanc Vieilles Vignes  - £19.75

A blend of young and old vines of Grenache Gris and Blanc and Macabeo grown on schist.  Light colour.  Subtle oak. A nicely rounded palate; textured with leesy fruit.  Some weight.  Soft tannins with a slightly bitter, refreshing finish.

2020 Iglesia Vella

Grenache Gris, from a massal.selection   Elegant fruit.  Medium weight.  Delicate, with satisfying texture and some supple tannin.

2020 Segna de Cor - £13.70

Young vines. Grenache Noir, Carignan and Syrah.  Ripe young fruit on both nose and palate.  Medium weight, with a streak of tannin.  Very youthful.

NV Alquimia Vin de Voile

A new wine and a blend of 2018 and 2019 bottled in August 2021.  A little colour.  A hint saltiness on the nose, and much more so on the palate.  Very incisive with good acidity and firm weight. More weight than the average fino sherry.  The wine is removed from the voile a month before bottling.  I thought it a very successful addition to the repertoire.

2019 1903 Carignan, Côtes Catalanes

Medium colour.  Quite a firm youthful, concentrated nose, with fresh fruit. Good weight and depth, with Carignan freshness and a firm finish.

They have a second estate Les Terres de Fagayra in Maury, which is dedicated to fortified wine.

2021 Maury blanc - £26.95

A blend of Grenache Bris and Macabeo grown on schist and on limestone, aged for seven months in vat. I found it lightly honeyed on both nose and palate, with some soft fruit and well-integrated alcohol.

Maury Rouge - £26.95

From old Grenache grown on schist and limestone.  Aged in stainless steel vats for seven months. Quite solid ripe fruit on both nose and palate.  Rounded and structured.
